Nagadipa purana viharaya - this temple located in the village of Nagadipa on Nainative Island is one of 16 hallowed places by visits of the Buddha. Jaffna public library - it was one of the biggest libraries in Asia containing over 97000 books & manscripts. Excursions - Delft island - a Portuguese called Liha das Vacas & Dutch called it Delft. It is 40Km journey from Jaffna to Delft. After reaching the Kurikadduwan jetty the ferry will take you to the island. The ferry takes about an hour to reach Delft, a distance of 10km by sea will be a wonderful experience for you. Indian shore is visible from certain points in Delft. This island is very famous for the wild ponies. We can have a boat trip to a place called '' meeting seven seas '' where the whirlpool is found. The Pigeon House made by Portuguese still exists. Tangalle means '' projected rock '' in Sinhala. According to the legend the name is derived from ' ran - gala '' or '' golden rock ''. Anecdotes relate to a story where a holy man was eating a meal and this rock being turned to gold. Tangalle is a regionally important fishing port. There is an old Dutch fort which is used as a prison today. The Mulkirigala rock temple, Kalamatiya Bird sanctuary, Turtle conservation projects are main attractions apart from the sandy beach. In the beach you can watch five species of marine turtles.
Koggala has one of the longest beaches in Sri Lanka. The area is famous for its distinct '' stilt fishermen '' who erect a single pole in the chest-deep water on the beach, just few meters off-shore where they perch on a cross bar and using Bamboo fishing rods cast their lines out beyond the surf break to catch small fish. Martin Wickramasinghe - Folk museum - Martin Wickramasinghe was a Sri Lankan great Novelist whose books have been translated in to several languages. He is one of the Sri Lanka's greatest authors. The house which he was born has inspired the Martin Wickramasinghe Trust to established a Folk museum complex. The folk museum is an ideal place to get to know what Koggala is about & the Museum is a fascinating collection of fishing, agro , pottery , metal , crafts , folk dances & religious ceremonies. The museum offers visitors rare insights in to Sri Lanka folk culture.

The wet land of the Madu river holds a mangroves spread of close to 915 hectares. Madu river is regarded as Sri Lanka's second largest wet land. It was mentioned that there were 64 Islands in the past & now there are only 25 islands. Many species of birds are found in many of the islands around the lagoon. This might be one of the last remaining tracts of pristine mangrove forest in Sri Lanka. The largest island is '' Ma duuwa '' & around 300 families live there. The smallest island is '' satha paha duuwa '' ( satha paha means 05 cents ) . The full boat ride gives you a rewarding experience. You can see some traditional fisherman & traditional Kraals ( ja-kotu ) set up to trap lagoon prawns.
